The Over-the-Rhine Museum inspires understanding and respect for the people who have created and lived in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood by working with community members and visitors to uncover, present, and preserve their stories in an immersive experience.

Our museum will be housed in a historic tenement, and will use the stories of that building's residents to explore the larger history of urban America. Currently the building is closed for restoration, but our Walking the Stories program is providing a series of fascinating walking tours. Each tour is about two-hours long with stops throughout Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Public tours are offered on weekends from May through October. Private tours for groups of 10 or more can be scheduled any day throughout the year.

Though the original Shires’ Gardens burned to the ground, “in a most picturesque fire,” the legacy that was left behind is everlasting and an integral part of the Queen City’s history. The creation of the Matinee Performance, the regal guests Shires’ hosted, an unsolved murder and other noteworthy events that took place at the original Shires’ Gardens, are an inspiration to our program that we look forward to sharing with you.
